GRATEFUL FOR ALL THAT I HAVE

Today's post is a little more serious - I am so very grateful for the many blessings I receive every day. I think just getting up in the morning, with a healthy body and a healthy mind, is enough.

Do we stop and express our gratitude for the little things we enjoy, often enough?

Do we even acknowledge or recognise the little things?

I am grateful, on a daily basis, for: -

  1. Greg - my strength and my all
  2. Bryce - my everything
  3. My healthy mind - a little forgetful but nonetheless healthy
  4. My healthy body - again, a little curvy, but all parts in good working order
  5. My mom
  6. My brother, Dylan and his gorgeous boys and loyal wife
  7. My sister, Queri and her beautiful daughter
  8. My dad
  9. My extended family (my wonderful in-laws and sisters-in-law and their families)
  10. My home, which comes with all it's creature comforts
  11. My warm bed and blankets
  12. Food
  13. Fresh air
  14. Safety and security within my home and whilst out and about and on the road
  15. Clean and accessible water
  16. Hot water
  17. Friends
  18. Kate - a true angel on earth
  19. Love
  20. etc, etc

Why not post me a quick list of 5 things you are grateful for - just acknowledging the little things make the journey of life all the more worthwhile.

I am also grateful that my cold is letting up and I feel human again - not like some "glazed donut monster" who can't breathe through her nose so makes these scary breathing noises with her throat - not pretty, I promise you!

Check out Sophia's updated blog - so beautiful. She is one talented lady. I got a sneak peak at her LO for the MMM Comp - stunning - a winner!!

Hopefully I will be able to post some of my LO's late next week so check back in then.

I am going to bed to read - got some divine thrillers from the Bookshop today. Try a novel by James Grippando or Val McDermid - nailbiters!! By the way, I want to start a Book Club - any suggestions for fun things to do - don't just wanna sit around discussing so-and-so's writing technique ....

Start of winter school holidays tomorrow - hope I can keep Bryce entertained. Trying to get to Sani Pass - hopefully the weather will co-operate and we will see snow during the hols. Gonna try my hand at 4 x 4'ing in the snow. My Fortuner manual says that it can drive in the snow - we'll see .....

P.S. So excited - picking Greg up from the Airport tomorrow - he has been in Zambia all week - again!!!@@##!

AWOL and MIA

I have not posted a comment since I don't know when - my computer wouldn't allow me Internet access so I had to get my IT guy (thanks, Len - u r a star!) to sort it out. In between that I have been to East London and have caught a horrid cold and .... okay, okay .... let me backtrack ....

A couple of days after my last post, I noticed that I could not access the Internet - at first I blamed Telkom (who else would stop me from getting my fix?) but by the middle of the next week I was almost hysterical because I had been on the phone to them and, bless-the-technical-assistant's-heart (he tried everything) could still not access my Internet. To cut a verrrrry long story short, I then went off to East London (school hockey and rugby tour) so didn't get anything done for another week.

The tour to East London was GREAT - very cold and rainly but good! Drama never stays too far away ... we arrived at the Bus Station at about 6am from where all the kids would be leaving. It was pretty emotional when all the kids got on the bus (after Carol and Gaynor quizzed the driver about his sobriety, years of experience, underwear size, etc. - way to go, moms). The bus started and idled for a while and then @!* - something about compression and brakes and stuff - all I understood was that the bus was broken!!! The bus company had no other bus available and told us that a mechanic was on his way - yeah, right - like my child was getting on a faulty bus ...

The Head Coach called a private bus company and Plan B (or was this already Plan J?) was set in motion ... Off we all trooped back to school to await the bus - by now we had been awake for about 6 hours and it wasn't even midday yet! The bus arrived to a standing ovation by relieved parents and learners. After another quick sobriety test by Gaynor and Carol, our kids boarded the bus and in no time at all we were saying a second tearful goodbye. I didn't feel as sad as some of the other moms as I was travelling to East London the very next day but my heart went out to Carol, Gaynor and Vashi, who were crying BIG tears as I felt anxious about the bus trip never mind sending my child into the unknown jungles of East London all by themselves ... a little melodramatic of course!!

Lo and behold at just after 5 on Monday evening we got a message from the Head Coach to say that the bus had broken down just outside of Umtata - Enough was enough -I burst into tears and wanted to get into my car and fetch all the children. Some moms even arranged (from Durban mind you) for the police from Kokstad and Umtata to travel to our children and keep them safe. As it turned out, the coaches (we love you Noleen, Ryan and Ann) had already arranged for the children to be picked up and transported back to Umtata where they stayed overnight. The new bus (well a bus that was working) arrived in East London at about lunch time on Tuesday with our children and coaches safe and sound and the girls went straight to a hockey match after check in at the Hotel. It was cold and miz and they played on Astroturf for the first time but they did us proud - well done hockey girls!!

The rest of the week was pretty uneventful considering the bus dramas at the start of the week and, although it was cold and rainy for most of the matches, the kids had loads of fun and I think learnt alot about the games of rugby and hockey. I am so very proud of each boy and girl who participated in this tour - you guys were so well behaved and I have a special place in my heart for each one of you.

FYI - Did you know (I sound like a Chappies wrapper) that KZN is the only province in SA where rugby is played with boots at junior level?

The schools in East London were divine - Hudson Park, Stirling and Stutterheim - and the parents very welcoming - thank you!!

Our coaches were absolutely amazing - they are truly born to be teachers and I saw a side of these special people that will endear them to me forever - it is a special moment when a big, tough Rugby Coach (that's you, Ryan) can draw a 12-year old into his arms for an affectionate hug after a match. Ann, your patience is enviable and Noleen, your committment and dedication is truly special - Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

We made some new friends (well, we got to know these great families even better) - Nadia's mom and dad (Faye and Logan) and Rudy's mom and dad (Sharon and Rajan "THE RAJ") also went to East London to support their children - thanks for the laughs - it wouldn't have been the same without you!!

We travelled with Belma and Stuart (Cam's parents) and had loads of fun. Stuart drives like a maniac - safely, but he reckons "the other guy has brakes" (he says he learnt this in the early days of the police force when he travelled around with Willie - J, your dad must have been a scary driver if this was the lesson he taught Stuart). Bel you are a mental case, girl and such good fun to be around - Thanks guys for a wonderful week.

I did find time to pop into a scrapbooking shop in EL - Spargs in Beacon Bay - divine!! Just not enough time to shop and too many husbands around for us to blow too much cash!!! Boo hoo - next time we leave the handbrakes ... er ... husbands ...at home.

This post is turning into a novel ....

Belma and Stuart treated us to a divine dinner on Friday evening at a place called Smoky Swallows in EL - wow, what a posh place - one of the top 100 restaurants in SA! And the food - mmmmmmmm - best curry I have ever had!

We arrived back in Durban on Saturday and I am pleased to say that our children and coaches arrived safely a while later without any bus trouble - hallelujah - there is not enough medication in KZN to have kept me calm if they had broken down again ....

I came back from EL with a sore throat which turned into a nasty cold but I am starting to see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. I guess I should stay in bed and rest - does sitting at the computer updating my blog constitute rest????

Whilst we were in EL, we got reports from friends and family in KZN to say that an aeroplane had skidded off of the runway at Durban Int'l Airport - no wonder I don't trust planes!! As it turned out, only one wheel left the runway but "skidded off the runway" sounds so much better - go figure! Scary stuff anyhow.

I was really sad to hear about the floods along the South Coast and the damage that these floods have caused to people's homes and belongings. Please remember to keep these people in your hearts and in your prayers.

On a happier note, my computer is fixed and as you can see I have had loads of news to share. My head is throbbing but I figure I owe it to myself to finish this post before I down yet another MedLemon and go to bed.

P.S. I still haven't figured out how to upload my scrapbooking pages - any tips on the best way to do this besides photographing the page and loading the photo??? Can anybody recommend a good (read EASY) photo stitching program?

A NEW BLOGGER (BROOM) SWEEPS CLEAN

How is this for good - my second post today - Master Teacher Sophs u r a star - I am hooked!!!!

I don't know how to post a comment on somebody else's blog yet so I haven't replied to any of Sophs comments - told you I have technically-challenged fingers. Am figuring it out so will post to your blog soon, Sophs. So glad to hear that Chloe is ok and that this is something you can learn about and manage until she hopefully grows out of it. Your girls are sooooo cute - makes me broody for a little girl.

Bryce played against Virginia today - not Penzance - blonde, er grey, er .... roots .... and we won 21-20. What a nailbiter at the end - thanks for saving our bacon at the very end, Jack and way to go with all the tries, Rudy!!

My son was a superstar today - he ran three fantastic breakaway runs and made some brilliant tackles today - I am so proud of him. He has been beaming all evening and is proud of himself - what a lovely feeling. I just know he is going to score a try in East London when they go on Tour in June - can't wait!!! WELL DONE, MY BOY!

Greg is in Zambia at the moment - really, really miss him - he may qualify for citizenship (heaven forbid!!) - in fact, I think he has spent more time in Zambia this year than our President has spent in our country - ok, ok - not gonna get political - don't want my phone bugged and being stalked by the CIA or the KKK or the FBI or the FYI (????). Hang in there, hon - you'll be home soon!! Love you lots and thanks for working so hard for us.

Mandi and I scrapped at Annamarie's place today - it was fun even tho' we spoke and laughed more than we scrapped but I guess that's part of the appeal of scrapping - the socialising-silly-giggle stuff. Thanks, Annamarie, had a great time. And to Annamarie's maid, Virginia - you are so funny!!! Hey, girls, bring on September ...

Okay, tired so going to bed to read for a while. Sleep tight fellow blog junkies!

HI DESIRE

Thanks for popping in to see me in cyberspace, Desire. Very sweet of you to welcome this newie onto the block. I will most certainly try and keep up with the blogging - a new broom sweeps clean, right? As soon as I know how to (lol) I will be posting layouts for the world to see (whoa - how scary is that???) Girls, go and check out Desire's blog - very professional and interesting and full - I bet you spend all your time blogging to have filled in so much info, Desire - I too will get there despite my technically-challenged fingers.

Today, my sister-in-law (sil???), Mandi and I are off to a friend in 'Toti (Annamarie) to scrap and chat for the morning - what a wonderful life (see why I lead A Charmed Life?). For those of you are waiting for me to get my A into G and start teaching again, please don't give up on me - I will persevere and will get organised sometime this millennium. In the meantime bombard me with sms's asking for classes (not only will it make me feel good - heehee - but I will get tired of procrastinating - maybe). I am trying to get back my creative mojo - it has gone on an unauthorised, extended vacation and I can't get hold of it to bring it home to mama. CREATIVE MOJO I FORGIVE YOU - COME ON HOME - CAPPUCCINO AND BANANA PECAN NUT MUFFINS AWAIT .....

As you can see I am NOT a drama queen (really, honestly, truly - Annamarie doesn't believe me but it's true - I promised you!!! - Afrikaans/Dutch accent required) - you'll either get used to me or be irritated by me - I can handle both.

As usual running late so must go.

P.S. Bryce has a rugby match against Penzance today - go TEAM!!! C u there my boy with my pom poms and banners flying.

P.P.S. Does anyone know how to combat pre-exam nerves - mine are shot!! I think Bryce is coping better, tho'.

I'M A SURVIVOR

I survived my first post and have been playing around with colours. I am nowhere near changing important things like html code (I now know that this is computer lingo) and such. I am so grateful, Sophs, for your help - it was great having you here last night - you saved this blog from becoming extinct - thank you ... thank you ... thank you ...

Go check out Sophs' blog - she is way experienced on the blog thing.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself and what the East Coast of South Africa is all about: -
  • I am a wife to Greg (my high school sweetheart and soul mate - love you, hon) and a mother to Bryce (my raison de etre)

  • I live in Durban, SA - being a coastal city it is very hot and humid in Summer and mild in Winter (altho I'm sure global warming is causing it to freeze here this Winter - brrrr ... some mornings have been really chilly ....)

  • I am a SAHM (some days are good, others not so good, despite having all that I need and good medication - but that's another story for another day ...)

  • I love to read and scrapbook (is there anything else of interest to do???? - not on my shift)

  • I teach Scrapbooking .... ( I will have a link to my classes up and running shortly)

  • I have really good friends

  • I have an awesome (sometimes twisted, but good) immediate family (love ya, Mom, Dyl, Kez and Dad)

  • I have a great extended family (in-laws are the best and Horse and Snake are too ...)

  • I do not like to cook (borrring)

  • I like to wash my own dishes - there is something about the feel of a squeaky clean glass or dish ... go figure ...

  • I have curly hair - always in search of a good iron ....

  • I am way curvaceous .... don't go there today!!!

  • I love watermelon and oxtail and lamb chops and broccoli and baby marrows (not all mixed together, of course) ...

  • We have some of the best surfing spots ... (Greg is teaching Bryce to surf - go Bryce!!!!)

  • There are no lions roaming the streets ...

  • We have satellite tv ... (yup, we watch Greys and Life and Prison Break)

  • We use our mobile phones more than anyone else in the world ... (just a bit of useless info)

OOOPS - look at the time - I told you I'd become addicted, Sophs - I am helping out at Bryce's school library this morning so must get my A into G. Will let you have another scintillating insight into my world later.

Bye for now!!
